If you’re going to Bangkok any time soon, here’s a spanking new attraction for you to visit.

No, it’s not new beach or a new street market. Rather, it’s a shopping mall that’s so big, you might have difficulty exploring it in one day.

Or two days. Or heck, the entire week.

Iconsiam, an All-in-One Complex That Sits on 750,000 sqm of land

Just so you know, that size is more than 105 soccer fields combined together.

Known to be “the best of Thailand meets the best of the world”, ICONSIAM  is a all-in-one complex that comprises shopping malls and a condos. Located on the land on the bank of Chao Phraya River (i.e. next to a river), it’s a combination of four buildings: two residential ones and two retail ones.

Last Saturday (10 November 2018), the doors of the mall finally opened to the public to great fanfare, and boy does it look good.

About 80% of the stores in the mall are now open. There would be over 100 dining options for you to choose from, with one very familiar one (read on).

In the mall, there’s an “Iconluxe” zone that’s the wet dream of Crazy Rich Asians, featuring high-end brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Hermes.

It houses the first Apple Store in Thailand, which of course led to a long queue on its opening day…

…the first Nike Kicks Lounge in Southeast Asia, whereby you can customize your own footwear while still retaining that iconic tick logo…

…and of course, the first Takashimaya in Thailand, which we all know is obviously high-SES.

There are more, of course; but hey, it’s so big, this article would become a book if we list everything down.

But there’s also something familiar.

Singapore’s Jumbo Seafood Opens There As Well

If you’re a fan of Jumbo Seafood, you’ll be glad to know that the local F&B giant has a restaurant there. Though it’ll be weird to have Singapore food in Bangkok, but hey: if you’re feeling homesick, that is where you should be.

Other than these retail outlets, it also features a multiple, first-of-their-kind attractions, labeled the ‘Seven Wonders at ICONSIAM’, comprising a River Park, an Iconic Multimedia Water Feature, a big space that promote Thailand’s culture, a big hall, a monorail connection, a river museum and an art museum.

Do note that not all the “attractions” are opened yet.

Not completely open yet

Next month, an IMAX movie cinema will open. Not sure why you’ll spend two hours in a cinema while you’re on a vacation, but anyways.

By July 2019, a big auditorium would open its door, providing businesses with a space for meetings and conventions.

Somewhere around next year, the River Museum Bangkok would open. Guess the name has suggested what it is (yeah, a truly IG-worthy place).

It’s More Than Just a Mall

Just think of the mall as…Jurong Point. It’s not just a mall, but a residential development as well, comprising two residential towers. In total, there are 525 units in the towers, and they don’t come cheap: according to CNN, two-bedroom units in the towers start at USD$2.58 million (that’s about SGD$3.56 million for a small unit seh!).

But of course the price is justifiable: it sits on a rather good location with many retail business just across the mall as well.

Transport isn’t the best-est, though

Unfortunately, you can’t take the BTS direct to the mall until 2020, when a new line would be completed that connects to the mall.

As of now, if you’re taking public transport, you’ll have to alight at Saphan Taksin station and take a free shuttle boat, or alight at Thonburi station and take a shuttle bus.
