Millennial pink was all the rage the past few years.
From shoes to clothes and interior decor, brands have been coming up with products in the said shade of pink.
What if I told you apart from wearing pink, you can become one with it?
This is a reality in Europe at least.
Make way, strawberry soft ice coming through
On 27 March 2019, IKEA announced “plans to introduce a more sustainable, plant-based version alongside the traditional dairy-based soft ice” on their website.
According to IKEA, it’s similar to ice cream, except there’s no cream in it as the strawberry soft ice is fruit-based.
It’s made from strawberry purée to be exact.
This invention is the result of IKEA’s fight to save the world and it looks like they’re winning because they’ve reported that the new vegan soft ice “has almost half the carbon footprint compared to its dairy-based friend.”
Apart from the newly released strawberry soft ice, IKEA has introduced the veggie hot dog last year in Europe and the United States in hopes of offering more sustainable and healthy food options.
Rolling out in Europe
The sweet treat will be available on the IKEA Bistro menu in Europe, from this month (April 2019) onward.
As for the rest of the world, hold your horses because IKEA is working on creating greater variations of plant-based soft ice, which could potentially be based on oats or soy.
Ultimately, they hope to introduce vegan soft ice in IKEA Bistros across the globe which caters to each region’s taste preference.
That being said, IKEA Singapore has replaced the Vanilla ice cream we know too well with a Soy version since 5 August 2018.
Tastes just as good, if not better than an ice cream
Personally, healthy food is not my taste because I have this impression that they are too healthy.
And as a result, often don’t live up to the flavour I have in mind.
For example, if you’re a die-hard Maggi Mee fan, a healthier variation of instant noodles doesn’t sound very appealing, to be honest. For the same reason, I have yet to try their Soy ice cream which has been around since 2018.
If the taste is indeed what you’re worried about, it’s time to turn that frown upside down.
The Right Taste & Perfect Texture
According to Sandra Lindh, Commercial Manager IKEA Food Services AB, “In the past month we have been working closely with our supplier to find both the right taste and the perfect texture for this new soft ice.
“Our ambition was to create a plant-based treat that is as soft, airy and delicious as our popular dairy-based soft ice”.
Furthermore, “It’s an easy, affordable and delicious treat for customers that either need or want to skip dairy products and prefer plant-based food options”.
Regardless of whether you’re a vegan or not, we’re sure IKEA’s latest release will be a hit with everyone because it’s hard to go wrong with Strawberry. A guilt-free dessert where the taste is not exactly compromised? Sign me up!
The best part? You don’t have to wait till Wednesday to celebrate the pink treat like our all-time favorite girls.
