India and Pakistan agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire on 10 May 2025, ending days of deadly jet fighter, missile, drone and artillery attacks that had pushed the nuclear-armed neighbours to the brink of war.

The ceasefire took effect from 5pm (7.30pm Singapore time), with both sides agreeing to “stop all firing and military action on land, air and sea,” Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed.

“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire. Congratulations to both countries on using common sense and great intelligence,” Trump posted.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated on X: “Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity!”

At the border, civilians had endured days of shelling. In Jammu, people rushed to board evacuation trains.

The overnight Indian attack on the Rawalpindi airbase could be heard from Islamabad. Pakistan accused India of targeting three of its bases with missiles. India reported “several high-speed missile attacks” on airbases but noted “limited damage” to equipment.

Pakistan-administered Kashmir said 11 civilians were killed by Indian shelling overnight. The Indian government reported artillery fire from Pakistan killed at least 16 and injured more than 50 in the worst violence between the two sides since a renewed ceasefire in 2021.

The combined civilian death toll on both sides had risen to 66 before the ceasefire was declared.
