Air India is investigating an incident where a passenger allegedly urinated on a Japanese businessman during a Delhi to Bangkok flight, reported Hindustan Times.

The incident took place on Wednesday (9 April 2025) aboard Air India flight AI2336 from New Delhi to Bangkok, despite fully functional lavatories being available on the aircraft.

Tushar Masand, a 24-year-old Indian national seated in business class seat 2D, reportedly urinated on Hiroshi Yoshizane, the Managing Director of Bridgestone India, who was seated directly in front of him in seat 1D.

According to reports, Masand had consumed two glasses of single malt whisky before the incident, which occurred as the aircraft was descending into Bangkok.

Cabin Crew’s Response

The cabin crew responded immediately by providing towels for clean-up and escorting Yoshizane to the lavatory to change his clothes.

Masand was relocated from business class to economy seat 14C and issued a verbal warning. He reportedly offered a direct apology to Yoshizane.

Despite being visibly upset, Yoshizane declined to file a formal complaint, reportedly stating that he did not wish to waste further time upon landing in Bangkok.

Another business class passenger, identified only as Matthew and seated in 1F, raised strong objections following the incident.

Citing safety and comfort concerns, he insisted that Masand be removed from the business class section.

Air India confirmed the incident in a statement, saying: “The crew followed all laid down procedures, and the matter has been reported to the authorities.

“In addition to warning the unruly passenger, our crew offered to assist an aggrieved passenger to take up a grievance with authorities in Bangkok, which was declined at the time.”

Official Investigation

The airline has reported the matter to India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and announced that an independent committee has been formed to review the incident and determine what disciplinary actions, if any, should be taken.

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu stated that authorities would investigate, adding that “if there is any wrongdoing, we will take necessary action.”

Air India has already barred Masand from flying with the airline for 30 days.

Previous “Pee-Gate” Incident

This incident has drawn comparisons to a similar case in 2022, dubbed “pee-gate”, where a passenger named Shankar Shyamnaval Mishra urinated on a 72-year-old woman in the business class section of an Air India flight from New York to Delhi.

That earlier incident triggered national outrage and intense scrutiny of airline procedures surrounding unruly passengers.
