A family in Indonesia’s Soppeng Regency has stunned the nation with a tangled web of relationships that defies convention.
Apparently, a man had an affair with his mother-in-law, divorced his 21-year-old wife, and then married her mother.
In essence, he became his ex-wife’s new stepfather.

Man Divorces Young Wife After Getting Mother-in-Law Pregnant
A man with the initials “BR” divorced his 21-year-old wife “AL”, after he got his mother-in-law “FR”, aged 36, pregnant.
The events unfolded in early 2024 at Taccampu, Desa Abbanuange Village in Soppeng Regency, South Sulawesi.
Desa Abbanuange village head Buhari confirmed the details when contacted by Indonesian portal Detik. He stated that the son-in-law had gotten his mother-in-law pregnant and subsequently divorced his wife.
“That’s right, the son-in-law got his mother-in-law pregnant… He divorced his wife. Both families have reconciled. They have made peace,” Buhari explained.
Soppeng Police Chief Aditya Pradana provided additional context about the affair. BR had engaged in a relationship with his mother-in-law, who had become a widow after her husband’s death.
Family Mediation Results in Divorce and Remarriage
An Indonesian territorial army non-commissioned officer and officials from the Lilirilau Police Station served as mediators for the family conflict.
Following the mediation talks, FR and AL’s family reached an agreement. BR would divorce his wife AL and marry her mother FR instead.
All parties involved have since reconciled. The mother-in-law, now BR’s wife, has already given birth to their child.

And yes, BR is now his former wife’s stepfather.
