What should you do if you’re an educator?
Educate.
You have a responsibility to help those you teach to become better, enrich their learning and guide them.
What you shouldn’t do is abuse your power and position.
Tricking other people to do what you want just because you have authority over them is pretty disgusting.
Especially if you use that power to do things like molesting children.
Hard To Detect
It always irks me when people do things like this.
In an article by AsiaOne, an Indonesian Quran teacher identified as “AI” is suspected of molesting seven elementary school girls.
(No, it’s a real human and not an artificial intelligence)
AI even offered his victim money not to tell their parents about the indecent act.
How much? About S$0.50 to around S$4.00.
Luckily, one of the victim’s mother was observant.
She noticed several changes in her child such as pain while urinating.
Bambang Purwanto, 55, a member of a nearby community unit service, told kompas.com that the daughter mentioned the incident when asked if she was sick.
Rounding Up Others
The victim’s mother did not report to the police immediately.
Bambang said that she went to check with her daughter’s friends who had also been allegedly molested by AI.
In fact, there were six other victims from three different community units.
The majority of whom were under 11 years old, who claimed to have been molested by AI since July.
AI had given five of them money and had told them not to inform their parents.
What makes this really sad is that these children might not truly understand what’s going on as they take the money.
Catching AI
After rounding up all the proof, it was time to move onto the next step.
The girl’s mother reported AI to the women and child protection (PPA) unit at the East Jakarta Police.
About a week ago, with aid from local officials, they moved out to catch AI.
Even before taken to the police station, AI had been questioned about the alleged molestation he did to the girls and denied them and continued to do so after the arrest.
Bambang recalled dozens of angry citizens telling the police to simply arrest him and take him for questioning immediately.
Effects On Victims
Unfortunately, the whole case isn’t a happy ending.
Five out of the seven victims had suffered severe trauma and appeared scared when AI’s name was mentioned.
Additionally, three victims filed medical reports that are due to be released on 28 October.
I really hope in the long run, all the victims and their families involved can get through this emotional crisis.
Nothing much to say about AI; pretty sure we’re all thinking the same thing.
If you know of any similar cases going on and are unsure what to do, please call the police.
There are people who can be stopped from this simple act alone.
