Injured Teen ‘Repaid’ Kind Auntie Who Helped Him By Robbing Her

People always say, do good things and good things will happen to you. Treat others like how you would want to be treated yourself.

But sometimes, Karma’s a bitch.

Like this kind auntie who runs a liquor shop in Little India.

Injured Teen Comes Into Shop, Kind Auntie Offered Help

On 15 Oct, a teenager with a bleeding leg entered Madam Irene Yeo’s shop on Chander Road.

He was with two other friends at that time and Madam Yeo recognised him as one of her regular customers.

As she was taking care of his injury, the two friends took some alcoholic drinks from the shelves and hid them in their bags.

Then, they left together with the teenager.

She only discovered what happened after they’ve left the shop.

Not wanting to report them to the police because they’re still young, she managed to find the teenager’s phone number from her sales record and called him.

He admitted to the theft and returned the stolen bottles of liquor to her.

Case Closed? Nope.

The next day, when her brother came to the shop to open up, he found a horrifying sight.

Drawers were ransacked. Money, expensive liquor and cigarettes were gone. Even a few cheques and cheque books left in the shop disappeared.

Madam Yeo immediately called the police when she arrived at the shop.

Discovered That The Same Injured Boy Allegedly Part Of The Group Of Robbers

The police retrieved footage of the break-in from a police camera overlooking the back door of the shop and showed it to the shop owners.

To her horror, she recognised some of them from the earlier incident.

A group of six teenagers were arrested by the police: one 14-year-old, three 15-year-olds, one 16-year-old and an 18-year-old.

According to a report, the 18-year-old is believed to be the injured teenager in the earlier incident.

The police had also raided the boys’ homes and recovered part of the stolen merchandise.

They include:

• Dozens of bottles of liquor
• Two three-litre bottles of Martell cognac (worth ~$2,500)
• Several cartons of cigarettes

All in all, it was estimated that the police managed to recover about $8,000 worth of merchandise.

Penalties For Housebreaking By Night

The penalty of housebreaking by night is a jail term of up to three years and a fine.

If you’ve intended to commit the crime, you can be jailed up to two years and fined.

If you’re convicted of housebreaking by night to commit a jailable offence, you can be jailed up to five years and fined.

In other words, don’t do it. It’s not worth it, especially with so many cameras around you.

Shop Owner Simply Felt ‘Betrayed’

Yeo Buan Heng Liquor Shop moved into the area since 50 years ago and it’s well-known in the area.

Madam Yeo simply said that she felt ‘betrayed’ by the teenagers, especially since she decided not to ruin their future because they were still young.

“I should never have given them a second chance.”

However, she has nothing but praises for the efficiency of the Singapore Police Force.

“Thankfully, the police responded very quickly. I’m very appreciative for their help.”

Moral of the story? Think twice before giving a second chance.
