If you need any additional reasons to take the Covid-19 vaccine jab beyond keeping yourself and your loved ones safe, Singapore’s insurance companies are now giving you one.
Coverage in case anything happens due to the Covid-19 vaccination.
Everything About the New Coverage in Integrated Shield Plan That Covers COVID-19 Vaccine Complications
On 25 Jan 2021, it was reported that all seven Integrated Shield Plan (IP) insurers are extending coverage to cover hospitalisation caused by the Covid-19 vaccination.
The seven IP insurers are AIA, Aviva, AXA, Great Eastern Life, NTUC Income, Prudential and Raffles Health Insurance.
An Integrated Shield Plan consists of the Medishield plan (managed by CPF) and a private component managed by private insurers.
It typically covers Class A or B1 wards in private and public hospitals.
Encouraging S’poreans To Take Up Covid-19 Vaccination
While MediShield Life is claimable for vaccination-related complications, the private component doesn’t.
The IP providers are extending this special coverage to complement the coverage by MediShield Life to encourage as many Singaporeans to take up the Covid-19 vaccination as possible.
The coverage will last until 31 Dec 2021 and applies to all policyholders who receive Covid-19 vaccinations approved by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) in Singapore.
As for whether this special coverage will extend after 31 Dec 2021, the Life Insurance Association, Singapore (LIA) says they’ll decide after monitoring the situation.
In other words, just take the Covid-19 vaccine before the deadline.
Customers are encouraged to contact their own IP insurer for more details.
Upcoming Financial Assistance Support For Covid-19 Complications
It’s not just private insurers jumping in to help.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) is also planning a financial assistance support scheme for people who suffered adverse reactions likely due to the Covid-19 vaccination.
Typical side effects of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine include fever, fatigue, headaches and soreness in the arm.
MOH says that these side effects will typically disappear within hours or days and can usually be treated with paracetamol.
Other common side effects include lymph node swelling at the neck or arms.
However, in rare cases, adverse reactions can occur.
Some of the signs include having difficulty breathing, suffering swelling on the face, throat eyes or lips, experiencing dizziness and weakness, have a fast heartbeat or a bad rash all over the body.
Anyone who experiences such symptoms must go to the nearest hospital or call 995 immediately.
People who take the Covid-19 vaccination jab are required to stay on-site for a period of time for observation before being allowed to leave the vaccination centre.
On a separate note, the authorities are urging Singaporeans to take the vaccination whenever offered because they’re not going to reserve any for you.
