NSmen Can Soon Fulfil Their Annual Fitness Requirements (i.e. IPPT Requirements) at Home With Virtual Workouts

Are you someone who hates expending energy?

With food delivery platforms and an option to work from home, do you believe that leaving the house is no longer necessary?

Do you happen to be an NSMen?

If you answered “yes” to the above questions, you might find it difficult to drag yourself to the gym for your annual fitness test.

For that one day a year when you have to leave your home, you’d often turn to your partner and say “Aiyah, I wish I could just do this at home”.

Well, now you can.

NSmen Can Soon Fulfil Their Annual Fitness Requirements (i.e. IPPT Requirements) at Home With Virtual Workouts

Gone are the days where operationally ready national servicemen (NSmen) had to go to SAF camps, Safra gyms, and public parks to attend their fitness training.

From next Monday (12 July), they will be able to fulfil their annual fitness training requirements from their homes or workplaces with virtual workouts.

According to the Ministry of Defence (Mindef), the virtual sessions are part of the NS Fitness Improvement Training (FIT) programme which launched this year.

The sessions will be conducted over a video-conferencing platform.

NSmen can do a maximum of nine NS FIT @ Home sessions for their 10-session NS FIT annual requirement.

This is because the 10 sessions include the individual physical proficiency test (IPPT) as well, which must still be taken in person.

Not only will this provide more flexibility for NSMen, but it will also minimise disruption to training if the COVID-19 outbreak here worsens.

Up to 45 NSmen can take part in each FIT @ Home session, which will have at least two fitness trainers checking on their safety and performance.

For their own safety, participants are required to fill out a declaration form where they list their workout location, an emergency contact, and their recent health status.

They will also have to ensure that their environment is free of hazards and indicate so on the form.

If the two instructors notice any signs of injury, they will first call the NSman, and then his emergency contact if he does not respond.

If the emergency contact doesn’t respond as well, an ambulance will be sent to his workout location.

The virtual workout sessions are an hour long, and consist of static exercises, such as punching movements and knee kicks.

All You Need is a Safe Environment & Stable Internet Connection

All you need to join a workout session is a safe environment, at least 2 by 2m of space, and a stable Internet connection.

Interested servicemen can register on the NS Portal from Wednesday (7 July) and will receive a web link via e-mail soon after.

Two sessions will be conducted daily – 12.30 to 1.30pm and 6.30 to 7.30pm – except on Fridays.
