In the beginning of the year, everyone was talking about Iran—after all, Trump’s order to kill General Qasem Soleimani could sparked a war between the US and Iran, and that could create a ripple effect that’ll lead to World War 3.

It didn’t happen; instead, everyone’s attention turned to something that we can’t see but can feel: the COVID-19 virus.

And yesterday, Iran got into world news again.

Iran Has 2 Confirmed COVID-19 Cases & 2 COVID-19 Deaths

Yesterday, it’s confirmed that there are now two confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Iran.

And Iran also registered its first and second death from COVID-19.

According to a ministry spokesperson, the authorities had followed up after “the recent cases of chronic respiratory diseases in Qom.”

They then did a test on the two patients, but “unfortunately both passed away in the intensive care unit due to old age and issues with their immune system.”

Alireza Vahabzadeh, an adviser to Iran’s health minister, said, “The two victims had suffered acute lung infections due to their infection with the coronavirus.”

According to state news agency IRNA, they had not travelled abroad or even outside of Qom province prior to their deaths

In response to this, the authorities have “set up emergency units for the treatment of contagious diseases in the holy city.”

Qasem Jan-Babaei, Iran’s deputy health minister, said, “We urge people to avoid shaking hands and kissing, to observe personal hygiene and preferably avoid crowded places…There have been no reports of coronavirus in other cities so far, but there is a possibility that cases may also arise in other cities

“People in Iran should not panic.”

However, schools and universities in Qom would be closed today as a precaution against further spread of the disease.

In the meantime, over here in Singapore, we have many new cases reported daily.
