If you’re heading to IU concert next month, and are trying to find a topic to have a small talk with fellow uaenas, try this: you know how many times IU chew per bite.
Yes, shocking, I know.

IU just revealed something very personal (and weird) about her: her dentist has told her to chew less, because apparently, she chewed too much when she is eating.
And that’s not all; she counted the number of times she chew per bite.
IU Apparently Chews Over 150 Times Per Bite When Eating; Told by Dentist to Chew Less
On 24 March 2024, IU appeared as a guest in Korean comedian BDNS’ YouTube channel.
It’s just a usual talk show, but about three minutes into the show, as IU was talking about food, she revealed that she chewed a lot.
She added, “When I go to see the dentist. I’m told to chew less. I’m told that I chew too much, to the point where I damage my teeth.”
Ok, but how serious?
“I counted how many times I chewed. In one bite, I chew at least 150 times.”
And yes, the host was shocked, too.

The rationale was that she felt she liked that, and liked “enjoying the food to the most.”
It seems like superstars are human, too.
But is it useful?
It’s Actually Common & It’s Called Mindful Eating
Weird as it might sound, there’s a term for this: mindful eating.
Mindful eating means paying full attention to what and how you eat, feeling each bite, and noticing how your body responds, all without judging yourself.

This way of eating makes meals more enjoyable, helps you understand where you eat better, and guides you to choose foods that make you feel good and are good for you.
Counting your chews is one part of mindful eating
By slowing down and really tasting each mouthful (like what IU said), you can help your stomach work better, avoid tummy troubles like gas and bloating, and have more energy.
Chewing well is important because it breaks the food down into small pieces that your body can use more easily to get energy and nutrients.
But of course, 150 might be an…overkill.
