K-pop Star Addresses Visual Changes After School Photos Surface
IVE member Yujin recently addressed the significant changes in her appearance after some of her old elementary school photos were shown publicly during a television appearance.
The revelation came during the premiere episode of Earth Arcade 3 on 25 Apr 2025 (KST), where Yujin joined fellow cast members Lee Eun Ji, Oh My Girl’s Mimi, and Lee Young Ji for a pre-show meeting.

During the episode, producer Na Young Seok proposed a game that required the four members to recreate their past outfits or looks. As part of this activity, the cast members’ old pictures were displayed one by one, including Yujin’s elementary school photo from 2015.
The photograph showed Yujin with her signature strong facial features already apparent, but with noticeably smaller-looking eyes behind thick glasses.
When her castmates teased her about the difference in her appearance, Yujin explained that she had suffered from severe nearsightedness.
“My prescription was -9 back then. That’s why I looked funny and my eyes looked small,” Yujin shared with the group.
Transformation Details and Playful Banter Among Cast Members
In Korean fan culture, yearbook photos are commonly used as reference points to judge the natural beauty of celebrities in their younger years or to speculate about possible cosmetic enhancements. While this practice raises some ethical questions, it remains a common aspect of K-fan culture.
The light-hearted conversation continued as Yujin’s fellow cast members jokingly suggested that she recreate her old look by gaining weight, wearing the same clothes, and getting an identical haircut.
In response to these suggestions, Yujin added another detail about her transformation, saying, “Then I’d have to undo my braces too.” This comment revealed that orthodontic treatment had also played a role in enhancing her visual appearance over the years.
The exchange displayed Yujin’s candid and relaxed personality as she openly discussed the factors that contributed to her changed appearance since her school days.
