If you’re stuck in another country for two years, what would you do?
- Eat ice cream every day to comfort yourself
- Zoom with your parents to cry daily
- Get fit
This man decided to throw his troubles behind him and chose option three and when he finally went home, his parents were not happy.
M’sian Who Was Stuck in S’pore for 2 Years Went Back to M’sia With Six-Pack Abs
Thanks to COVID-19 and the travel restrictions, this Malaysian who was working in Singapore was stuck here for two years. Deciding to make the best out of the situation, 28-year-old Jackie Siau decided to start working out daily.
Through regular exercising, Siau started on his yellow brick road to a skinnier version of him. Additionally, he also joined a local acrobatic circus group, Bornfire.
Siau has been so active that he lost 25kg and even achieved six-pack abs.
After two years of constantly waiting for the borders to open and working out, he can finally go back thanks to the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL).
When the land VTL was launched on 29 Nov, he bought the first bus ticket back to Johor Bahru.
Parents Wished He Eat More
When Siau returned home with six-pack abs, he expected his family to be proud of his progress. Instead, his parents became worried because they thought he was not doing well in Singapore.
They wished he would eat more since he looked so skinny as compared to two years ago.
However, Siau was not the only one that changed over the years. His parents grew older as well.
Siau spotted various wrinkles donning on his mother’s forehead and his father’s hair becoming thinner, a sight one would normally not notice if they are around their parents daily.
“When you’re around your parents for most of the time, you might not notice any difference in their appearance.”
Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL)
The opening of the land VTL allows workers who were stuck in Singapore or Malaysia to go back to their countries. Up to 1,440 people were able to cross the causeway daily.
In the first week of the VTL with Malaysia, around 12,000 people crossed the Malaysia-Singapore border via the Causeway. That means over 12,000 like Siau get to reunite with their family once again but not all will have 6-pacs.
