Lest you’re not aware, MOH has encouraged us to defer any non-essential travel plan to Japan, though there are no travel restrictions imposed on people who’s been to the country yet.
And MOH’s done it for good reasons: the Land of the Rising Sun now has 420 confirmed cases (excluding those from the cruise ship) and 6 deaths. 33 countries now have travel restrictions for people who’ve been to Japan.
However, it’s should be noted that the country doesn’t have a sudden spike during the outbreak: the confirmed cases have always been gradual, though the head of the Infectious Disease Surveillance Center at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases claimed that the number could be much higher than reported.
Well, that is if everyone thinks like this man.
Man in Japan Who Knows He Has COVID-19 Allegedly Went to a Bar to ‘Spread the Virus’
According to Tokyo Reporter, city officials from Gamagori said that a man in his 50s was tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday. He had no symptoms at all but had been tested as both his parents were carrying the virus.
But unlike Singapore whereby anyone who’s tested positive would be isolated immediately, medical personnel apparently sent the man home first until a medical institution was found for treatment.
And what’s even more shocking is that he lives with his family.
Once he was at home, he allegedly told a family member this: “I am going to spread the virus.”
Last I know, COVID-19 doesn’t affect the brain so this guy must’ve been a long-distance relative of Patient 31 from South Korea, also fondly known as the Crazy Ajumma.
The man then took a taxi to a bar that’s staffed by women.
Think that’s the end? No.
Soon after, he left the bar and walked to another bar.
This time, he told the people there, “I tested positive for COVID-19.”
Thankfully no one thought that it was a joke, and a staff member immediately alerted a local health centre. Soon after, police officers dressed in protective suits arrived at the bar…only to realise that the man has taken another taxi home.
The next day, the man was immediately sent to a mental—I mean, medical institution.
Gamagori mayor Toshiaki Suzuki has this to say, “It is highly regrettable that he did not remain home as instructed.”
Both the bars are now being sterilized while all staff members and customers who had been to the bars had to undergo medical examinations.
Now, if there’s something to learn from this episode, it’s this: Crazy Ajumma isn’t that crazy after all, isn’t she?
Here’s a simplified summary of the South Korea martial law that even a 5-year-old would understand:
