Japan food town is set to open this weekend on 16th July, and we are unbelievably excited. This new establishment that’s opening at the fourth floor of Isetan at Wisma Atria will feature 16 Japanese restaurants, specially curated and handpicked from Japan to bring you a slice of its authentic culinary culture – a project worth S$8.5 million dollars.
The unique Japan food hall concept features 16 restaurants that are chosen based on their history and strong reputation in the industry with rich history dating back to centuries. Not only will you get to taste authentic Japanese cuisine, you can also indulge in a little in the unknown facts of their histories. Prices of food will start at S$10 for the Buttermilk fried chicken and up to S$100 for the Matsusaka beef.
Here are 10 things you must know about the Japan Food Town which will entice you to visit them even further!
1. They serve healthier choice Japanese rice
Now, you don’t have to worry about the excess calories, or the myth that 1 bowl of rice = 1 can of soft drink and what not. At Japan Food Town, diners will instead be served the Kinme Mai, a buttery buffed rice that is superior to that of white rice with creamy and moist textures. And don’t worry, this rice will still include the healthy components of white rice!
2.Fresh ingredients imported straight from Japan
In order to keep up with the authenticity, 50% of the ingredients will be directly imported from Japan daily through the use of a logistics hub in Okinawa – also how they are able to introduce new ingredients to the Singapore culinary scene.
3.Experience a 150-year-old Udon tradition
Inaniwai Yosuke, one of the tenants at Japan Food Town features handmade udon prepared with 150 years of experience. Here, udon artisans work daily to produce their three-day lavour of love – the Inaniwa udon by transforming carefully selected salt and flour into chewy and additive udon dishes.

These aren’t your normal, everyday restaurants, but restaurants that have been specially handpicked by the organizers. Therefore, you can let your expectations run wild and leave with a better understanding and appreciation of Japanese dining culture because you will certainly not be disappointed.
7. You get to try Matsusaka beef
Hailing from Japan, Matsusaka is considered one of the top three brands in beef, including Kobe Beef and Omi beef. Only female Waygus are raised in Matsusaka, where are fed beer to stimulate their eating, and receive regular massages when they have no appetites. Say whut now.
