Shocking Discovery in Osaka Apartment Reveals Pattern of Abuse

Police in Osaka responded to an emergency call in January from a 21-year-old man who reported being assaulted by his girlfriend, Saki Sato, following an argument about breaking up.

When officers arrived at the apartment, they found the victim with visible injuries on his left cheek and nose.

The man revealed that Sato had cut off his left ring finger, which was later discovered soaking in alcohol inside the refrigerator during a search of the premises.

The case gained public attention after Sato was formally indicted on 21 Apr 2025 on three counts of assault, charges which she denies.

Sato claims her boyfriend cut off his own finger, contradicting the victim’s statement to the police.

Online Admiration Turned Nightmare

The couple’s relationship began in 2023 when the victim, then a 19-year-old secondary school student, discovered Sato’s cosplay activities online and was captivated by her “sweet and cute appearance.”

After persistent pursuit, they started dating and moved in together by July last year.

What began as an infatuation quickly transformed into a nightmare as Sato exhibited increasingly controlling behavior.

Investigations uncovered that Sato kept the man’s bank book and smartphone locked in her safe, requiring him to ask permission to use them.

The pattern of violence began last September when Sato suggested that “a man’s nipple will grow back if you cut it off” before cutting part of the victim’s left nipple.

The finger amputation occurred on 19 Oct 2024, when Sato reportedly shouted, “I do not want you marrying another woman and exchanging rings,” before cutting off part of his left ring finger.

Despite the abuse, the victim admitted he hadn’t reported the incidents earlier because he found Sato so beautiful that he couldn’t bring himself to leave her.

Yandere

The case has sparked discussions on social media platforms in both Japan and mainland China, with many comparing Sato to a “yandere” character from Japanese anime—someone who appears sweet and innocent initially but later reveals extreme, often violent obsession toward their love interest.

“I thought this was just a fictional yandere trope, but is this girl an actual criminal suspect? Reality is stranger than fiction,” commented one Japanese internet user after the news broke.
