Jaywalkers Who Jaywalked in Busy Road at Paya Lebar Hit & Flung Metres Away

Remember when you were a kid and you tried crossing the street without holding your parent’s hand?

Your parents later shouted at you so loudly the blast of their breath nearly knocked you over.

You cried and wondered what the big deal was. But then you grew up and understood.

The road is a dangerous place, and if you take your eyes off the road for one second, you could end up getting badly hurt, or worse.

Jaywalkers Who Jaywalked in Busy Road at Paya Lebar Hit & Flung Metres Away

If you’re old enough to walk, you’ve probably jaywalked before.

It’s a bit like farting; everyone does it, but we pretend it never really happens.

After seeing this video, though, you might think twice before jaywalking the next time.

On 1 Oct, SG Road Vigilante SGRV shared a video of a taxi slamming into two pedestrians who had jaywalked.

The two pedestrians were flung several metres away, and one had to be taken to the hospital.

The video, which compiles footage of the accident from two angles, showed a man and a woman crossing a junction together in Paya Lebar.

The traffic light had already turned red, however, and vehicles from the opposite end sped towards them.

The vehicles could clearly see them from far away, though, so they simply slowed down and waited for them to pass.

However, this prompted the pair to pick up their pace, and they started jogging across the road, hoping to reach the other end as quickly as possible.

Then, from out of nowhere, a taxi came racing towards the two pedestrians. They spotted it and tried to get out of the way, but it was too late.

The cab crashed into them and they were violently tossed into the air before landing on the floor several metres away.

The man immediately got up on his feet, but the woman remained on the ground.

The driver of the cab pulled up a few metres ahead, and the cabbie came rushing out towards the injured pedestrian, as did his female passenger.

(This was actually the wrong thing to do, as drivers should leave their cars in the same spot after an accident to protect victims from other vehicles).

According to CNA, the injured victim is a 17-year-old teenage girl. She was conscious when taken to Raffles Hospital.

The man, who wasn’t as badly hurt, was seen bleeding from the knee.

Always Be Cautious When Crossing Roads

Some netizens sympathised with the taxi driver, as his line of sight was blocked by the stationary vehicles on his right, making it impossible to stop or avoid the two pedestrians who came jogging towards him.

In any case, this should serve as a cautionary tale to all of us who jaywalk and take road safety for granted.

Always look both ways before you cross the street, and only cross when that little green man is flashing on the traffic signal.

Motorists and pedestrians should always be wary of each other’s carelessness, and not assume that the other will look out for them.

Remember, one tiny mistake on the road could end up costing you your life, so please be careful.

Hopefully, the two pedestrians will recover from their injuries.
