Lest you’re unaware, Capital City (or you can call it Capital 21) opened to much fanfare two days ago on 17 Oct, and for good reason: located just 20 minutes away from Singapore, the mall’s touted as the largest thematic mall and entertainment complex Johor Bahru has to offer.
But here’s the thing: if you, like everyone else, are hyped up for the launch event and can’t wait to check it out yourself…
We advise you not.
Or at least not yet.
But hold on before you throw that rotten tomato at us for being party-poopers, because much as we hate to be the ones to say it…
Flooded with more complaints than open shops
Since the mall began operations on 17 Oct, the establishment’s Facebook page has been nothing short of ravaged by visitors’ comments. And while we would like to speak well of it, the reality is that…
It’s not quite positive feedback.
But don’t just take it from us; take it from these peeps who evidently didn’t quite get what they were looking for.
With a load more complaints flooding the page, it seems the general consensus is that the mall’s next to unexplorable, with a dusty environment, an unfinished mall, vacant shops, flooded toilets, general uncleanliness and at least one non-functioning lift amongst the main gripes.
Improvements
On Capital 21’s side, it seems that they are aware of the mall’s shortcomings as well. According to a patron, even the staff and workers themselves are embarrassed, and “could only” smile politely at mall visitors.
Improvements, however, seem to be underway.
Transcript (in case you can’t see):
“Thank you all for the comments. Capital City is currently at the soft launching stage and we will strive to improve our standards as soon as possible. Thank you for your support. We will be extraordinary in the coming months! Meanwhile, please continue showering your love to us at Capital City!”
You can actually take a “walk through” in this video, and indeed there are quite a few shops that aren’t open.
Although it’s interesting to note that the mall attached pretty nice pictures, as contrary to its supposed ‘state’.
Kind of like how my @notzhihao account incorporates great pictures that don’t quite look like reality, really.
(Once again, the author embedded his own Instagram account there and the editor switched it to the Goody Feed Instagram account instead)
But I guess in its defence…
The mall still has to run.
So, What is the Hype All About?
The mall has different distinct zones by using elements from different continents such as America, Europe, Asia, Middle East and Australia.
Just think of Jurong Point’s Hong Kong Street, but amplify it to almost the entire mall. That’s why it’s also called the Thematic Mall, because #themes
What makes this mall unique isn’t just its size, but the simple fact that it has the largest indoor theme park in Southeast Asia.
But wells, let’s wait. Because usually, new iPhones would be great after a software update #justsaying #iphonerules #samsungcangoeatchickenrice
