I come from the future.
It is the year 2308. The world is a good place now. We have successfully cloned Keanu Reeves and used the good bits of his DNA; much of the world shares his kindness and generosity.
Poverty has been eliminated, and the world order is good.
There are no conflicts to speak of, save for in the Superchamber Virtual Realities. Climate change took a while to solve, but when nations don’t have conflicts, it turns out it wasn’t that difficult after all.
Singapore? We’re now a paradise that’s known as the freest and most interconnected place on Earth.
In fact, we’re connected to the rest of the world through a complex system of hyper dimension railways and temporal subspace jetways.
Except… except one place. I regret to say that Malaysia, despite being our neighbour, is still delaying the RTS. Even till today, people still walk to and fro JB-SG. Good news is, because travel is seamless everywhere else, it seems that people don’t mind the extra exercise.
Believe me or not, that’s an actual letter Goody Feed received. In one of our previous article on the RTS, we mentioned “MRT to JB is real. It’s going to happen, though we don’t know when. 2200 or 2320, maybe, but it’s still going to be a reality.”
It wasn’t a joke.
And because we still got at least 300 more years and it’s only 2019, let’s hit the headlines again:
JB-S’pore Rail Suspended Again Till April 2020
And just in case you think Goody Feed has now turned into fiction – this news is real. It’s what Khaw Boon Wan said on 4 November 2019. On 29 October 2019, Malaysia requested a further extension to 30 Apr 2020.
“In the spirit of bilateral cooperation, Singapore agreed to Malaysia’s request to further extend the suspension period.”
But, if it’s another delay, surely at least there’ll be some plans in the makings? Right? Right??
And this is where I bring you the headlines again:
‘M’sia’s Proposal Is Incomplete’
See, although it seems like both Malaysia and S’pore say okay to go, Malaysia’s proposal isn’t quite… detailed. This is what Minister Khaw said:
“Without the details, Malaysia’s proposal is incomplete and Singapore is unable to make a thorough assessment of the technical and commercial feasibility of the proposal.
“While we are not obliged to accept Malaysia’s proposed changes, we will continue to keep an open mind and assess them carefully and objectively.”
Nani? So in the end, as far as we can tell, nothing really happened?
So…Uh…Now what?
Nothing much really, we just wait for the year 2320, and maybe RTS will finally be completed then.
And in case you somehow know nothing about the RTS, here’s a list of articles we did:
