Jennie, whose full name is Jennie Kim, will release a new single next month.
Her upcoming release will be her first solo track since You & Me in October 2023. That same month, she also collaborated with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp on the song One Of The Girls.
The track racked up over a billion streams on Spotify and stayed on Billboard’s Hot 100 for 20 straight weeks. This earned Jennie a platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America, making her the first South Korean female soloist to achieve this.
Earlier, on 29 February, Jennie reached another milestone when her debut solo track Solo (2018) hit one billion views on YouTube, marking her as the first female K-pop soloist to reach that number.
Who is Jennie
Jennie was born on 16 January 1996 in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul, South Korea as Jennie Kim. She was an only child and initially attended school in Seoul before moving to New Zealand at a young age.
Jennie studied abroad in New Zealand for five years, discovering K-pop and developing an interest in YG Entertainment’s music during this time. In 2010, at age 14, she decided to move back to South Korea to pursue a music career rather than continue her studies overseas as her mother had planned.
She auditioned for YG Entertainment that same year with Rihanna’s “Take a Bow” and was accepted as a trainee in August 2010.
Jennie trained at YG Entertainment for six years before debuting as a member of Blackpink in August 2016. She was considered the possible leader of Blackpink due to her long training period and experience.
