When Jewel Changi opened its doors to the public, it was spectacular with loads of fanfare.
The 40m indoor waterfall was photographed and posted on IG so many times you’d have thought the Jewel was all about waterfalls.
A well-beloved brand was bought back to Singapore after 14 years of MIA.
And loads more.
But it appears that it isn’t only Singaporeans that appreciate the sheer awesomeness of the latest attraction in Changi Airport.
Because after a mere three months, Jewel is now entered into a competition against world-class heavyweights.
The World Architecture Festival Award
The World Architecture Festival award is the world’s biggest architectural awards programme.
Jewel Changi has been nominated for the Transport Completed Buildings category at the award.
It will go against eight other projects, including Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, Tainan Bus Station, Mernda Rail Extension.
An Icon of S’pore
Ms Charu Kokate of Safdie Architects, one of the firms in the consortium behind the design of Jewel, said that they are thrilled with the nomination.
Moshe Safdie, the lead architect, previously mentioned that he expected Jewel to become an icon of Singapore, “no less than MBS”.
The design of Jewel was inspired by the film, Avatar, which has a mind-blowingly beautiful landscape.
Previous Winners Of WAF From S’pore

Gardens by the Bay Conservatories, which won the best building of the year
The Singapore Sports Hub
And Kampung Admiralty, which won building of the year award in 2018.
