Toxic haters exist. Toxic haters who killed people in their prime exists too.
Thankfully for Jimmy Lin and his wife, former model-actress Kelly Chen, she managed to endure through it well.
90s Idol Jimmy Lin’s Wife Has Been Called ‘Ugly’ by His Fans Since They Got Married
Jimmy Lin is the 90s heartthrob idol who caught the hearts of women since he was 17 years old.
So to know that their gege (think oppa, just the 90s version) was caught by somebody else, you can expect the hate to get intense.
And it did.
In a recent Chinese variety series My Dearest Ladies, Kelly Chen, Lin and his mother took to the screen to reveal things that were previously unknown.
And one of them was the pressure of getting married to Lin.
Breakdown in Tears
Over the past 10 years, Chen revealed while in tears, she has been getting hate from his fans.
“They said, ‘You’re ugly, why do you get to marry him? What talent do you even have? You have buck teeth.'”
While his fans have toned down and it’s been ten years since the mega-backlash, Chen is still wary about appearing on the programme, afraid that it’ll trigger another round of criticisms.
Still, you got to admit that haters hate irrationally. After all, they called her ugly.

Jimmy Lin Aware Of His Fans’ Actions
Back in 2018, Jimmy Lin mentioned in an interview that he knows about the pressure his wife is under.
He knew that at the beginning, his fans who have been following him since 17 years old, did not approve of his marriage.
“They would think ‘Why her?’ or ‘Who is she?’”
But gradually, over the years, his fans have come around and realised that it’s “perfectly normal” for him to get married and start a family.
He added that his wife has raised the children well too.
“My fans have started to accept her. I don’t care what anyone says about me, but don’t attack my family.”
Think Before You Type
The fandom scene has been evolving throughout the years and the internet makes it worse.
Hate someone? I’ll dox you. I’ll curse at you. I’m going to spread malicious rumours about you.
Yet, the haters might’ve forgotten that behind the screen is a living person just like you and me.
And sometimes, they forget that these living people have feelings too, and might be driven to drastic actions because of your words.
