Johor Bahru‘s Mid Valley Southkey Mall‘s Ground Floor Catches Fire

Fires are hard to understand. They’re fascinating, but also seriously dangerous at the same time. They could start out as something tiny, but end up being life-threatening within a span of five minutes.

And they’re everywhere. Well, lately, at least.

As if the raging forest fires in the Amazon rainforest and Indonesia weren’t enough, fires seem to just be popping up everywhere recently.

And the latest case would be at Mid Valley Southkey Mall in Johor Bahru.

Fire Breaks Out At Shopping Mall In JB

A furniture booth on the ground floor of Mid Valley Southkey Mall caught fire yesterday, 18 September 2019.

The incident occurred at around 2.15pm, and the blaze was eventually contained by an emergency response team shortly after it started.

According to The Johor Fire and Rescue Brigade, they received a distress call at 2.25pm, informing them about a fire in the popular Sogo outlet inside the mall, as reported by Malay Mail. A fire engine and seven firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene.

“As of 4pm, we can confirm that there have been no injuries or casualties reported,” the shopping centre’s management said in a Facebook post.

Shoppers Were Keen On Taking Videos Of The Incident

Normally, your natural human instinct would tell you to run away the moment you see a huge pit of fire in the mall.

But not for a lot of the shoppers at the Mid Valley Southkey, apparently.

Most of them were moving towards the fire at first, to capture photos and videos of it on their mobile phones. Some didn’t even look too fazed about the fact that there was a loud, angry fire just directly in front of them.

Members of the public also allegedly attempted to put out the fire using a fire hose and extinguisher that were in the mall.

Although no one was injured this time, it is still always better to be safe than sorry. So if you’re ever caught in the middle of such a situation, it’s better to get the hell out of there as soon as you can instead of filming new content for your social media accounts.

The cause of the blaze has yet to be determined, and Fire and Rescue officials are still investigating what happened. Meanwhile, the fire didn’t affect the mall’s business and it is still open as per usual.
