Working Mums in S’pore Sent Over 2,000kg of Their Frozen Breast Milk to Their Kids in JB

When the Movement Control Order (MCO) came into effect in Malaysia back on 18 Mar, Malaysian working mothers in Singapore face a tough decision:

Do they go back home and take care of their children or stay apart from their kids for months on end?

When you add Singapore’s circuit breaker measures, closing down a lot of workplaces and the fact that they can’t return home unless their entry permit is approved, they’re pretty much stuck here.

Johor Statesman Stepped Up To Help Out

Johor state assemblyman Andrew Chan came to know about their problem and decided to lend a helping hand.

As a father of three, he understood the importance of breastfeeding for kids to grow up healthy and strong so he started working on it right away after receiving some calls from worried mothers in Singapore.

Malaysian mothers in Singapore with newborn babies, he said, pump out your breast milk and freeze them.

I’ll make sure to get them to your kids.

He made arrangements for the “liquid gold” to be sent into Malaysia via the causeway.

And the best part? It’s free of charge.

On 28 Apr, Mr Chan said that they have successfully managed to transport around 2,000kg worth of frozen breast milk over the causeway.

And the frozen breast milk was sent successfully to their families.

He also calls for working mums in Singapore to continue pumping and freezing their breast milk to be sent to their children if they wish to do so.

It’s great to see that even though they’re physically in another country and out of their jurisdiction, there are leaders out there who are willing to go all out for their people.
