A 36-year-old local man died on 21 Jun 2025 after falling into an uncovered manhole while riding his motorcycle along Jalan Mutiara Emas Utama in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
Fatal Accident Claims Life of 36-Year-Old Rider
The accident occurred at approximately 8:20am when the victim was travelling from Mount Austin towards Johor Jaya.
According to Johor Bahru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, preliminary findings indicate the motorcyclist lost control and veered left off the roadway.

The rider then plunged into the open manhole located along the roadside.
Police classified the incident as a single-vehicle accident. The victim reportedly skidded and fell on his own.
Severe Head Injuries Lead to Death
The victim sustained severe head injuries from the fall into the manhole.
Paramedics from Sultan Ismail Hospital pronounced him dead at the scene.
A medical assistant from the same hospital confirmed the death.
Police released a photograph showing a black body bag placed near the uncovered manhole. The image clearly displays the gaping drain at the side of the road.
Investigation Ongoing as Authorities Seek Witnesses
The case remains under investigation by local authorities.
It is unclear whether the manhole was part of any ongoing roadworks or maintenance activities at the time of the accident.
