‘Joker’ Stairs Overcrowded With Instagrammers & Influencers After Release Of Movie

Lest you’ve been living under a cave, you would surely have caught the most popular movie flick in the last month, a film so emboldened by the terrific performance of its lead star that it has been cited to ‘blow your mind’.

Non-literally, thankfully.

Yet, lest you’re really living under a cave like a well-seasoned hobo with Dumbledore’s beard, I feel compelled to introduce the film title to you. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I’m talking about the revolutionary flick…

Gemini Man.

Headlined by the ever-charismatic Will Smith, Gemini Man revolves around a nearly-retired assassin who’s being chased down by his most formidable enemy… himself. In a film that puts a theatrical play on the notion ‘Age catches up with you eventually’, Gemini Man manages to successfully-

“Yo, we’re kinda on the wrong topic here, aren’t we?” my editor cuts in. “Have you even read the article headline? Have you been exercising too much again? I told you exercise-induced morphine’s like a drug, didn’t I?”

Yes, I did. And no I’m not having delusions. I’m perfectly sane. Like a flower that has wilted… brilliantly.

“Yo Boss, he’s on drugs. Can we get another writer to write this instead?”

Do not interrupt me. You’re making fun of me, aren’t you? You laughed at me. You called me up here to make fun of me. Which leads to my next point. Gemini Man was the most popular flick of the last month, and then there’s Joker, a film that quite literally blows your mind. Or at least, someone certainly had his brains blown out in the film.

“He’s definitely raving, boss.”

Why so serious?

The introductory paragraph might’ve been exceedingly long, but the gist of it wasn’t entirely true. Granted, Gemini Man is revolutionary in its technique, but to say that it’s a more popular flick than Joker would be akin to comparing the live-action The Last Airbender adaptation to James Cameron’s Avatar.

Lol.

Joker, a standalone film based on Batman’s greatest archnemesis (arguably) of all time, revolves around titular character Arthur Fleck, who’s essentially a comedian hiding a world of sadness within him.

As the film goes along, we watch as the once-genuine man with kind intentions slowly breaks down, until he becomes the persona Batman-devotees have detested for so long. Joker.

Suffice it to say, Joaquin Phoenix delivered one of the greatest performances of his stellar career, and has already been touted to sweep the next Oscar award, no questions asked.

The film has also been a roaring success, claiming a box office revenue of USD$$281.6m nearly three weeks in against a budget of USD$55m. And it’s only expected to grow, as audiences flock into the cinemas to find out just why Joker is the most hyped movie of the last few months.

Truly, it’s a masterpiece.

And Needless To Say; It Has Garnered A Cult Following

Though thankfully, it’s not so much of a group of Jokers running riot in the city…

But a crowd of Instagrammers and Influencers hogging certain Instagram-worthy spots.

For better or worse, I guess.

So if you have caught the Joker film in cinemas, you would surely be familiar with some of the film’s more iconic scenes, including this particular staircase…

Yeah, that staircase.

Now truth be told; the staircase isn’t anything extraordinary. To put it into perspective, it’s hardly Eiffel Tower, and it’s not exactly the Great Wall of China either.

It’s just a really long flight of steps that showcased Arthur Fleck at his most vulnerable, and Joker at his most ‘elated’.

Though of course, it did also feature a number of cameos.

A lot of cameos, actually.

Still doubting the viral popularity of Mr Staircase at Bronx? Check this out.

Well, that escalated quickly alright.

The Opposite End Of The Spectrum

However, some have pointed out how the Instagrammers might actually be inconveniencing others in the process.

It is, after all, a functional staircase, movie highlight or not.

Additionally, locals have not been very receptive to people treating the staircase as a tourist attraction.

Not receptive at all.

It got to a point where they were preaching tourist fees.

Probably because it’s being treated as a tourist attraction and all.

Comments weren’t exactly snowflake-friendly either.

Long story short; the staircase might be a popular choice for aesthetic devotees…

But it’s not exactly appealing to locals, and the practical people in the world in general.

So here’s a heads up if you’re a chronic Joker fan. Travel to the site if you must. Take the pic if you must.

But don’t expect kind gazes to be directed at you while you’re doing it.

But of course, if you’ve always wanted to feel how Joker felt as he trudged up the stairs so defeatedly at the start of the movie…

I think that’s something worth thinking about.
