82YO Man Smashed Jurong Stall & Destroyed a Fish Tank ‘Coz of a Banana

How far would you go for your favourite food?

Sometimes, when you eat something so delicious and exquisite, like your favourite char kway teow or maybe even your mom’s home-cooked meals, you’d say “I’d kill for this”.

Of course, you don’t mean it literally, for you’re not irrational enough to believe in murder just for a few meals.

This particular uncle, however, tried to take that phrase to a whole new meaning.

All for one banana.

Feud Began With Fruit

Mr Zheng, 65, runs a “Live Fish And Frog” stall at the Block 347 Jurong East Market.

On the morning of 11 July, at about 9am, he was going about his day of business when an 82-year-old man visited his store.

Although Mr Zheng was acquainted with the old man since a year or two ago and frequently chatted with one another, this particular instance quickly turned sour.

When interviewed, Mr Zheng recounted that the old man passed by his stall that day, where there was a bunch of bananas hanging at the front.

The old man then reached out as if to take one of the bananas, to which Mr Zheng told him: “Old man, don’t take it.”

Which must’ve set off something in the man, who became uncontrollably violent with anger.

Mr Zheng said that he tried to run elsewhere to hide, but the old man was relentless in chasing him.

This resulted in a punch given to the face, causing a nosebleed.

Yet, the old man’s anger didn’t subside at all, and he charged into the stall to grab a kitchen knife.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t because he wanted to cut up the banana.

Instead, the old man chased Mr Zheng around the market for approximately three rounds while wielding the knife.

What a sight it must’ve been for market-goers who just wanted to get their groceries, huh?

Thankfully, a passerby called the police, who showed up at the scene soon after.

Mr Zheng stated that he was still unsure as to why the old man was so angry with him but believes that he won’t “cause trouble” in future and isn’t too worried about it.

The police also confirmed that reports have been made and that a 65-year-old man is assisting in investigations regarding the quarrel.

Additionally, the 82-year-old man was being investigated for charges of quarrelling, criminal intimidation, and mischief.

The old man had also apparently been injured, but did not require treatment in the hospital.

So don’t go chasing people around with a knife just for food, for it won’t end well on your part either.
