A Reddit user took a photo of Jurong East MRT station Platform B, but there was a noticeable problem.
If you have a keen eye and look closely enough, you might notice that the platform is too small for anyone to actually use to board the train.
What is this? A station for ants? It needs to be at least three times bigger for anyone to fit inside.
It might shock you to learn that the platform is a miniature.
Jurong East MRT Station Miniature Presented As Gift by Local
The Reddit photo, posted on 11 August, showed the miniature displayed inside Jurong East MRT station itself.
“SMRT is pleased to share this beautiful miniature of the station platform with you.” An attached piece of paper read.
“Masterpiece by Commuter Anthony,” it read, alongside his TikTok handle.
The well-made miniature showed the platform with a passing black-and-red MRT train, coupled with a sign and what looked to be a ventilation fan that fell off, all encased in a plastic box.
On Anthony’s TikTok “@likeants“, he showcased the creation of the MRT station miniature in several videos. The sheer detail in the model was impressive, going so far as to add advertisements to the platform gates.
In the 7 April video, he headed to Jurong East MRT station with the miniature in hand, to present it to who he called its “rightful owner.”
The station staff called their station manager over, who admired the work put into the miniature.
In the comments section, “@SMRTTrainsSG” thanked Anthony for his amazing work and for making the day for the staff at the MRT station. They then mentioned having prepared something for him to pick up.
On 20 April, he posted a video about the meeting, where the SMRT management team gave him a tote bag with an SMRT teddy bear, chocolate, a lunchbox, what looked to be a paper train kit, and a handwritten thank you letter.
Anthony also mentioned in the comments of the previous video that the miniature had been given to Jurong East MRT station itself.
That explained it being on display as seen by the Reddit user four months later.
Creator Also Made HDB Lift Lobby & Miniature Minimart
Other than the MRT station model, Anthony also created many other miniatures mostly centred around recognisable slices of Singapore.
A video on 26 October 2023 showcased a HDB lift lobby, complete with a CCTV camera, no smoking signs, and SCDF flyers pasted on the walls.
Even mini Singapore also got fines, there’s no escape.
Anthony also created a mini minimart for an uncle running a real minimart near his home.
It featured counters full of snacks you’d find in a Singaporean shop, QR codes, and CDC voucher posters.
Anthony presented it to the shop owner himself, who seemed very happy with the cute gift.
He also talked about how he felt like giving up his passion for crafting dioramas before due to a lack of recognition but decided to keep pushing onwards until his Jurong East miniature unexpectedly got attention on local news sites in April.
As such, Anthony encouraged all those toiling in their passion projects not to give up and keep going.
