Did you know that Jurong used to be a swampland before it was industrialised? Now, it’s going to be become even cooler than an industrial hub. Jurong is going to become “an industrial park of the future”, in the words of Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat. As part of the government’s push to encourage higher levels of innovation, a new Jurong Innovation District will be built around the area of Nanyang Technological University.

Being located near NTU, the Jurong Innovation District will be able to create synergies between researchers, students, innovators and businesses, allowing them to come up with innovative products of the future.

JTC is in the midst of building Launchpad@JID, a facility that would allow people to design, prototype, and test-bed their new innovations. They have also been inviting private sector technology owners to move to the district to test and develop innovative and sustainable infrastructure solutions.

Phase One of the JID is expected to be completed in 2022, transforming Jurong into an actively thriving hub of innovation. As it starts to develop and take shape, the property market is bound to be affected.

This is definitely positive news for Jurong-ers. First, your property prices will see an increase due to the increased research and business activities in the district. Also, this means even more facilities will be built for your enjoyment around the area! We are thinking at least a few more malls (other than Jurong point) in the Jurong West region. And of course, there is never too many food options!

Even if you’re not an aspiring Bill Gates, Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg, you can still share in the excitement that the JID is going to bring to boring, old and industrial Jurong. We are definitely raring to find out what exciting new changes there will be in time to come!
