Singaporeans may be known for quite a few Ks, including the infamous kiasi and kiasu titles, but the fact remains that when push comes to shove…

They’ll be there to have your back.

Mama Shop Owner in Jurong Awaits Surgery Due to Heart Attack; Residents Came From All Over to Help Clear Stock

The provision shop located at Block 316 in Jurong East Street 32 has served residents in the vicinity faithfully for at least 20 years.

But it appears that those times may soon come to an end. Temporarily.

According to Mothershipthe owner of the store has met with a slight complication.

Apparently, he had felt ill while opening shop on 31 March 2021. Sensing something amiss, he quickly called a cab and headed to the hospital.

“It was a sudden heart attack,” said the man’s daughter, Charlotte.

The owner would now have to go through a heart bypass surgery in May, and has been advised to stay off work for the time being.

Unfortunately, this meant that the shop would have to be closed for a while…

A notion that does not bode well for the bulkier stocks in store.

Clearing Stock

Thankfully, Charlotte has taken it upon herself to clear the less time-permissible parts of the inventory.

On 7 April, she posted a Facebook entry, sharing her father’s plight and appealing to nearby residents for help.

The post has since garnered over 360 shares, well above what she had originally intended.

Netizens have also professed their support for the cause.

In fact, Charlotte stated that response was “very overwhelming”.

Queries have also since flooded her inbox.

“Thank you for the heart warming messages and all the PMs orders to help us clear the bulky stocks…” she wrote.

“Really really very touched by the community here… on behalf of my dad, once again thank you.”

Sales

According to the Facebook post, the first run of sales will be held on 9 April 2021, from 1 to 6 p.m.

Apparently, the turn-out was immense, with one customer actually buying 10 cartons of drinks.

Sales were, according to Charlotte, “very good”.
