Moneylender in Jurong Was Robbed Twice in 5 Months; Once Was by an ‘Auxiliary Police Officer’

They say lightning never strikes the same place twice, which is why after I got struck once last year, I spent most of my days hugging trees in open fields during thunderstorms.

I’ve been struck about 6 times since then.

Whoever came up with that saying clearly didn’t know what they were talking about.

If you think that an awful, traumatic event can’t possibly happen to you more than once, think again.

Moneylender in Jurong Was Robbed Twice in 5 Months

Remember the auxiliary police officer who robbed a Jurong store with a gun on Monday (12 Apr)?

Well, it turns out that the store had also been robbed just five months earlier.

On 19 Nov, 2020, three men, aged 19 to 22, walked into the store along Jurong Gateway Road and robbed the unit of about S$48,000.

One of the men pointed a knife at the female staff, pulled her hair, and instructed her to hand over the money.

The men then dragged her into a room before fleeing with the cash. A fourth man, 26, was believed to have disposed of the knife used in the robbery.

All four men were arrested for their suspected involvement in the robbery.

At the time, Chinese news site 8World reported that the store was OT Credit, a licensed money lender located at Block 135, Jurong Gateway Road.

And this was the same store where an auxiliary police officer struck just five months later.

Robbed Store With Gun, Walked Away With S$24,000

On Monday at around 3.30pm, Mahadi Muhamad Mukhtar walked into OT Credit and allegedly showed a staff member this note:

“This is a robbery, don’t shout. I got gun in my pocket. Put all the money in the bag.”

The staff member complied and handed the man more than S$24,000 in cash, then he fled.

But it didn’t take the authorities long to nab the officer, as he was arrested just five hours later.

The perpetrator, Mahadi, turned out to be a 38-year-old auxiliary police officer.

According to TODAY, Mahadi was carrying a M85 Taurus revolver when he allegedly committed the robbery.

He reportedly drew his firearm from Aetos’ headquarters before he was deployed.

Could Face Life Imprisonment

While Mahadi is believed to have acted alone in the robbery, he did deposit a portion of the stolen cash into the bank account of a friend, 34-year-old Nur Shana Mohd Taib.

Both Mahadi and Shana were charged on Wednesday.

Shana faces one charge of dishonestly receiving stolen property, which carries a penalty of five years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

As for Mahadi, he could face life imprisonment if found guilty of being in unlawful possession of arms or ammunition in the commission of a scheduled offence, along with up to six strokes of the cane.
