6 People Tested Positive for COVID-19 at Jurong West Blk 695 Block Testing Operations

At the start of the pandemic, we barely had enough COVID-19 tests, as the virus had just emerged and researchers were working against the clock to develop an accurate diagnostic test.

But now we have such an abundance of test kits that we’re able to mass test whole HDB blocks at once to uncover infections that may have otherwise gone unnoticed.

That’s why the Ministry of Health (MOH) launched a mass testing operation recently at Block 695 Jurong West Central 1 for all residents after 14 cases were detected in six households there.

Now, we have the results.

6 People Tested Positive for COVID-19 at Jurong West Blk 695 Block Testing Operations

A total of 486 residents at the block had swabs shoved up their noses so they could be tested for COVID-19.

In the end, six tested positive for the disease.

The operation was mandatory for all residents except those who tested negative for COVID-19 infection since last Friday.

While waiting for their results, residents were advised to minimise their social interactions as much as possible.

No Infections Detected During Testing Operation At Chin Swee Road & Jalan Kukoh

Another testing operation was carried out at HDB blocks at Chin Swee Road and Jalan Kukoh after 15 COVID-19 cases were detected there in several households.

Five cases were detected in two households at Block 52 Chin Swee Road, three cases were detected in three households at Block 3 Jalan Kukoh, and seven cases in four households at Block 9 Jalan Kukoh.

Residents at the connecting block – 53 Chin Swee Road – were also tested in the operation.

Fortunately, of the 653 residents, owners, and staff of commercial units there swabbed, none tested positive for the virus.

All residents at Blocks 3 and 9 Jalan Kukoh tested negative as well, including staff in commercial units and cleaners – in total, 770 people were swabbed.

As the authorities said previously, the more we test, the better, as we can uncover infections in the community that could otherwise spread the disease further if undetected.

49 Locally Transmitted Cases

49 new locally transmitted cases were reported yesterday (17 Aug), of whom 19 were unlinked.

23 are linked to previous cases and had already been placed on quarantine. Seven are linked to previous cases and were detected through surveillance.

Four imported cases were detected as well, taking yesterday’s total case count to 53 infections. Three were detected upon arrival in Singapore, while the remaining one developed the illness during SHN or isolation.

One new cluster, linked to an individual, was identified as well.

Sadly, a 64-year-old man died from COVID-19 complications on Monday (16 Aug), becoming our ninth fatality this month.

He had a history of end-stage renal failure, ischaemic cardiomyopathy, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. He was not vaccinated against COVID-19.
