As if the gym isn’t already intimidating enough for many, a recent freak accident in Indonesia only makes the gym seem even more intimidating.
Fitness influencer Justyn Vicky lost his life after getting into a freak accident at an Indonesian gym.
Fitness Influencer Justyn Vicky Falls After Breaking His Neck Doing A Squat Press
Last Saturday (15 July), 33-year-old Justyn Vicky headed to The Paradise Bali gym in Sanur, Indonesia, expecting it to be just another day there.
However, that was far from “another day” at the gym.
In footage that surfaced on Facebook, it was revealed that the 33-year-old was doing squat presses with a barbell weighing 180kg to 210kg.
As Mr Justyn stepped away from the squat rack, he tried readjusting his stance but struggled to stand upright with the heavy barbell on his back.
As a result, he fell to the floor, and the barbell rolled to his neck, snapping his neck and head forward.
Yikes. To say that it looks painful would still be an understatement.
Mr Justyn’s spotter, who is supposed to help him with the weights, was unfortunately unable to get a good grip on the barbell while Mr Justyn fell.
The footage also shows Mr Justyn struggling to push the barbell off of him with the help of another man who rushed in to help with the weights.
The fitness instructor was later rushed to the hospital with a broken neck.
Although an emergency operation was performed on Mr Justyn, it, unfortunately, wasn’t enough to save him. Apparently, the nerves connected to his heart and respiratory systems were compressed due to his broken neck.
Mr Justyn passed away subsequently.
Friends of Fitness Instructor Express Their Condolences

Friends of the fitness instructor also extended their condolences, with one Mr Gede Sutarya sharing that the 33-year-old “always advised his friends at the gym to be careful and not to push themselves beyond their capabilities”.
Someone get the tissues, please…
