You may know Studio Dragon as the producer behind such Korean hits like Crash Landing On You and Goblin.
Now prepare yourself as the said maker makes its way here…
To film Korean dramas on local shores.
Yes folks. Witnessing the likes of Hyun Bin speaking Singlish may no longer be a distinct dream…
But one that may well be within grasp.
Soon, Some K-Dramas Might Be Filmed in S’pore As STB Partners with a Korean Studio
Your favourite Korean oppas and unnies may soon be crash landing on you.
Right here in Singapore.
Apparently, Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has partnered up with Studio Dragon – in a bid to get our sunny island featured in their TV productions.
The deal was done on Wednesday (9 December), with both parties signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for 3 years.
As such, Studio Dragon will proceed to film on our local shores once border restrictions are eased or lifted.
So in a sense, you can expect to see Singapore’s greatest landmarks in the backdrop as lead actor A and lead actor B vie over the affections of lead actress A, with lead actress B attempting to set fire to MBS.
Well, somewhere along those lines anyway, I would presume.
STB will reportedly have control over where Studio Dragon should film in Singapore.
They will also advise on the appropriate products and culture to feature.
In other words, expect to see lots of Garden by the Bay, Singapore Flyer and MBS.
Tourism Boost
With the likes of BTS and top Hallyu stars making waves throughout the entire world, Korea has become recognised as one of the world’s top entertainment industries.
As such, having Singapore in the backdrop of these international-reaching productions would certainly go a long way as far as tourism is concerned.
“Korean dramas are immensely popular around the world,” said STB CEO Mr Keith Tan. “And we hope this will generate more interest and conversations about Singapore.”
He also hopes that the deal will get Singapore’s tourism sector off and running again, after what was, for the most part, a really disappointing 2020.
Meanwhile, Mr CK Kang, Chief Executive, Studio Dragon Corporation has also expressed his delight over the collaboration.
“We are pleased to establish our first relationship with the Singapore Tourism Board despite being in a difficult situation due to COVID-19,” he said.
“While it will be not easy to come together at this moment due to challenges brought about by the pandemic, we hope to be able to expand our partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board not just to feature Singapore as a travel destination for future visitors but in various other IP-related projects focusing on dramas in future as well.”
As of the current moment, there has been no specified start date for Studio Dragon to commence filming.
However, you can probably expect to see them in the near future.
Studio Dragon
Set up in 2016, Studio Dragon Corporation is a South Korean drama production, marketing and distribution company that’s situated under CJ ENM’s E&M division.
Its logo, which it calls the “Drama Paragon”, was supposedly inspired by Cintamani – a jewel that signifies Asian culture.
Apparently, Studio Dragon’s aim is to glorify Asian culture, through each and every one of its productions.
Since 2016, they have produced a number of hits, including Squad 38, Legend of the Blue Sea, Love Alarm and Doctor John.
In early 2020, their production, Crash Landing On You, became the highest-rated tvN drama in history, and the third highest-rated South Korean TV drama in cable television history.
Their next film, Sweet Home, is set to hit Netflix soon.
The supernatural drama will star the likes of Cha Hyun Soo, Pyeon Sang Wook, Seo Yi Kyung, Lee Eun Hyuk, Yoon Ji Su and Lee Eun Yoo.
