Love Takes Center Stage: Hong Kong Actress Karena Ng Confirms Marriage to Billionaire Heir Brian Sze in a Celebration of Romance and Familial Acceptance
Hong Kong actress Karena Ng has officially confirmed her marriage to businessman Brian Sze, son of Hong Kong billionaire Ivis Sze.
The couple, whose relationship sparked rumors, completed their marriage ceremony on 16 December 2023 in the presence of relatives and friends.
They shared the joyful news in a joint statement four days later on 20 December, “We are looking forward to this new journey and are ready for the happiest moments of our lives.”
To commemorate the occasion, the newlyweds posted several photos from their marriage ceremony on social media, teasing followers with the caption: “My forever. Stay tuned for the wedding in 2024.”
Pictures from the couple’s nuptials began circulating online on 17 December, captivating fans and well-wishers.
Meet the Happy Couple!
Actress Karena Ng kicked off her acting career on a high note with the 2011 movie Magic To Win, in which she quickly rose to prominence. The role earned her a nomination for Best New Performer at the 31st Hong Kong Film Awards.
Ng went on to star in several notable films such as 2015’s Ip Man 3 and 2022’s Sunshine of My Life.
She was previously in a high-profile relationship with fellow Hong Kong actor Raymond Lam until their split in 2018.
What about the other half of the couple, Brian Sze?
As per reports, he is the eldest grandson of Hong Kong real estate tycoon Shi Ziqing.
Brian’s grandfather is one of the three pioneers of the Hong Kong Fujian clan and serves as both chairman of Hang Tung Resources Holding Limited and the vice-president of the Chinese General Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
Despite his affluent family background that boasts a reported net worth of HK$10 billion, Brian has chosen financial independence and opted not to work for his family post-graduation from George Washington University.
Their Love Story
Ng and Sze’s romance began in 2018, when they met through a mutual friend.
Despite having less-than-stellar first impressions of each other, they quickly bonded over their shared hobby of surfing, and their friendship gradually blossomed into that of romance.
The pair’s relationship took a significant step forward when they participated in the Chinese reality show Viva La Romance 2023.
“In my opinion, in this day and age, it is hard to have passionate romance right off the bat, but once you’ve been friends for a really long time, the relationship would last for a long time,” said Ng in said variety show.
“Our love has been built upon the foundation of our friendship.”
During the show, the couple also admitted to submitting their marriage application and shared plans for a wedding banquet in 2024.
The show also featured a trailer showing Brian Sze proposing to Ng, prompting other guests to inquire about their relationship.
Sze confessed that when he initially began dating Karena, he supposedly felt a sense of inferiority, perceiving himself as “poor” compared to Karena’s relatively established celebrity status.
Meanwhile I didn’t even have money to buy bubble tea last week but sure bro, whatever.
He also recounted touching moments throughout their relationship, such as taking Karena to his late mother’s grave.
“She said: ‘Auntie, please don’t worry. I’ll take care of your son’,” recalled Sze. He emphasized that his mother’s grave is not somewhere he would bring just anyone to visit.
Their relationship had not been smooth sailing all the way, however, as the couple also revealed that Sze’s family did not approve of their relationship when it first surfaced on the news.
Sounds like a plot point of Crazy Rich Asians, huh?
When their relationship initially graced the cover of a paparazzi magazine, Sze’s father’s response was minimal—sending him a photo without uttering a word. .
Sze recounted, “He couldn’t accept that our family name had surfaced on a tabloid magazine; this is how he expresses his disappointment.”
Sze shared instances of her respect, such as preparing gifts for his family during special occasions like the Mid Autumn Festival, where she gave boxes of mooncakes to every member of his family.
Karena’s sincere and thoughtful gestures eventually won the family over.
The journey of Karena Ng and Brian Sze is marked by sincerity, familial acceptance, and the promise of a joyous future. As they embark on this new chapter, fans eagerly anticipate the official wedding in 2024.
