Those who frequent the Katong area will know that I12 Katong is one of the newer additions to the area and the go-to place for movies at Golden Village after a hearty bowl of laksa.
The mall is also relatively peaceful even on the weekends and a great place to get some work done.
Unfortunately, I have a piece of bad news for you guys:
Katong I12 Mall Will Close In March 2020 For Renovations & Will Reopen In 2021
What!? Noooo.
The above was my reaction when I first heard about the news.
A spokesperson from I12 Katong said that the mall will be closed from 1 March 2020 for renovations.
It will only reopen in 2021.
Who else is gonna miss this mall? It’ll essentially be closed for almost a full year.
So you must be wondering what exactly needs to be renovated? Well, public areas, toilets and the facade will be getting a revamp. These include the use of “green’ features.
I12 Katong “Exploring Retail And Leisure Offerings” For More “Vibrancy”
The reason for the upgrade is apparently to “capture charm and character of Katong”.
Perhaps it has something to do with the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) which is currently being built and the area near to Katong will be operational by 2023.
MSNews speculates that the revamp is in preparation for the opening of the new MRT line.
Besides this, the spokesman also mentioned that they “are also exploring other new and exciting retail and leisure offerings that will not only inject a fresh vibrancy to the mall, but also complement the lifestyles of our shoppers.”
So there you have it, folks. Like they say, good things come to those who wait. In the meanwhile, you can always visit other malls in the area, such as Parkway Parade.
Plus, they also have a movie theatre now!
If you watch at least 10 minutes of brain rot content daily, you must know this:
