A 24-year-old man was pronounced dead after his body was retrieved from the waters at Keppel Bay yesterday (27 August 2023), marking the second case of body being found in the area in just a week.
The Singapore Police Force informed that they received a call for assistance at Labrador Park at around 7.30am on the same day. Following this, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was called in for water rescue assistance at about 11.15am.
Initially, there was no sign of the person in distress, prompting the SCDF to deploy a rapid response fire vessel and an unmanned aerial vehicle to sweep the coastline.
Eventually, the body was found and recovered from the waters near Marina at Keppel Bay, a popular waterfront lifestyle destination located approximately 3.4km from Labrador Park.
The man was subsequently pronounced dead by a Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedic.
The police, based on preliminary investigations, have stated that they do not suspect foul play in the incident.
Keppel Bay Area
Keppel Bay, situated just a five-minute drive away from the central business district, is a vibrant waterfront city in southern Singapore.
It comprises the Resorts World Sentosa integrated resort, Universal Studios Singapore, and VivoCity.
Marina at Keppel Bay, in particular, is a host to luxury yachts sailing in from around the world to Singapore.
Similar Incident Last Week
In a strikingly similar incident last Tuesday, the body of a 50-year-old man was also retrieved from the same area.
In that case as well, the police did not suspect any foul play. A spokesperson from Marina at Keppel Bay mentioned that the man was a crew member of a boat berthed at the marina.
However, they did not provide any further details, citing ongoing police investigations.
