Back when I was a kid, I was always busy trying to catch up episodes of Winx Club on TV.
But now, we’re living in an era where young children have access to the internet and social media sites. Their childhoods are definitely much different from what I had.
Another Dumb Challenge
You’ve heard of the tide pod challenge, but here’s another dumb one for you.

The bin bag vacuum challenge.
So stop eating your tide pods and get into a trash bag now.
To participate in this challenge, you won’t need much. You just need a black trash bag and a vacuum cleaner, which are everyday household items.
But unless you have a social life or a life in general, I don’t think you’ll be doing this anytime soon.
Next, all you have to do is sit in the bag and create a seal small enough for the vacuum to fit in. Turn on the vacuum and boom. You’re sealed in the bag. (Which really isn’t the brightest thing, but you do you.)
Relatively Safe?
Unlike consuming a whole tide pod or eating a whole spoonful of cinnamon, this challenge is relatively safe.
Unless of course, you get stuck in there. One participant who did the challenge was allegedly stuck sealed in the bag for at least 2 whole hours and had to wait for their parents to come home to help them out.

It must suck to be stuck in there. (Get it, vacuum, suck.)
Guess Not
If you’re considering trying this challenge, you should think twice. In an article by GuangMing Daily, a doctor from Penang told the newspaper that the challenge could cause harm to our bodies.
Specifically, it can cause damage to our nervous system. The worst case scenario of the challenge would be choking, suffocating, and ultimately death.
Life is way too short to be doing dumb challenges like this for a social media video, kids.

How?!
The science behind this is quite simple. Imagine being sealed in a bag for a long time. Your movement would be restricted, with your knees against your chest. Breathing would be quite difficult too. If they had difficulty breathing with no one around them to get them out, the likelihood of passing out and passing away is very high.
This term is also known as cerebral hypoxia. This is a form of reduced oxygen throughout the body, specifically the brain. When there is a lack of oxygen in the brain, the participant will collapse and pass away.
Don’t Do It
I get it. It’s the June holidays, things on TV are boring, you don’t want to do your homework.
But this challenge will have devastating consequences if not done correctly. Not that I’m condoning it, but if you’re going to actually do it, be sure to have an adult around. It may be uncool, but if you’re going to do it for the Gram, do it safely.
Otherwise, why not take a trip down to Jewel Changi or visit other places in Singapore during the holidays? There’s so much more to explore rather than sitting in a sealed trash bag.
