Before role-playing games on the app store became a staple for kids to play and made iPad kids the way they are, most of us like to play pretend IRL.
When KidZania first opened in 2016 on Sentosa Island, it was the place for roleplayers to put on the big-boy and big-girl pants and experience what it was like to work in their dream job. There were kid-sized doctor’s coats and stethoscopes, kid-sized racecars and even functioning radio equipment for aspiring radio hosts.
Unfortunately during COVID-19, KidZania Singapore closed down.
However, KidZania Singapore is set to reopen soon. Here’s everything you need to know.
KidZania Reopening after Renovations
The oversized educational playground announced on its social media that it is set to reopen on 16 May in Sentosa after a 10-month renovation.
According to The Straits Times, the ultrarealistic interactive city spans over 7,600 sqm and it would have two levels.
Its website says that children aged four to 14 can enjoy over 60 role-playing activities resembling actual professions through collaboration with 40 local and international companies that run actual businesses IRL.
Here’s a glimpse of the new partners offering experiential learning in KidZania.
It was mentioned that they will operate under the new management of Sim Leisure Group.
Things to Do in KidZania
It’s truly an immersive experience for kids.
Those who aspire to become lab techs and have a deep interest in biology can take advantage of KidZania’s partnership with Airumtec, a disinfectant company that cleans many schools, offices, malls and public transport in Singapore.
Using their equipment, kids can learn about bacteria analysis and how to fight it.
Aspiring pilots can wear the pilot uniform and try a hand at operating a plane (don’t worry, they won’t fly one) while aspiring firemen can work with the Singapore Civil Defence Force and try out their drills.
Of course, these only scratch the surface of the experience the kids can have there. They can be journalists, models, retailers, bakers, pharmacists, and so much more.
New Learning Activities and Future Professions – Keeping Up With Trends
Most importantly, the reopening of KidZania welcomes new jobs that are highly relevant to the needs we have today.
Looking at their partner list, this means that new jobs in mental health, nutrition and sustainability are available for kids (and parents) to learn more about.
Of course, that includes potentially a digital sales and marketing job with Shopee.
While it is not fully disclosed what the partnership with Shopee entails Instagram user @mojojo_ing who shared her family’s experience at KidZania’s soft launch shows kids in the “Shopee Shop”.

Looking at the picture, it seems that kids get to experience doing order-fulfillments and product packing.
Honestly, it will definitely be more accurate and exciting to see children learn about product sale live-streaming – camera set-up and all that.
