On 30 June 2007, then 19-year-old Felicia Teo Wei Ling vanished without a trace.
At the time, Teo was studying for a diploma in fine arts at the Lasalle College of the Arts.
She lived with her family in a flat in Bain Street and worked part-time as a bartender at The Bungy Bar and The Loof.
Last Seen Entering a Lift With Two Men
On 29 June 2007, Teo reportedly left her house to attend a party.
She went to a friend’s HDB flat at Marine Terrace after the party, and was seen on CCTV footage entering a lift and taking it up to the 10th floor with two men.
This was the last time Teo was seen.
According to Lianhe Wanbao, Teo previously told her family she would be attending a friend’s wedding on 30 June, but never turned up.
Teo’s mother told SMDN that her daughter had a friend who lived in Marine Terrace, but said she didn’t know who the two men in the lift were.
Some news outlets reported that these two men were Teo’s friends, and that they were in the Marine Terrace flat with her.
When interviewed by police, both men maintained that Teo left the flat of her own accord in the early hours of 30 June.
According to TODAY, Teo was receiving and sending many text messages that night, and when the two men complained about the noise, she “left in a huff”.
Her exit, however, was not caught on CCTV.
Phone records later showed that a text message had been sent from her phone at 2.37 am on 30 June.
Over 200 of Teo’s family and friends searched frantically for her at her favourite hangouts, with some even going as far as Johor Bahru, but they couldn’t find the 19-year-old anywhere.
Since there was nothing linking the two men to Teo’s disappearance, it was classified as a missing person case.
Now, 13 years later, the authorities might have finally solved this cold case.
Killer of Missing Teen 13 Years Ago Has Been Arrested & Was Charged Today (17 Dec)
A 35-year-old man was charged with the murder of 19-year-old Teo on Thursday (17 Dec).
According to CNA, Ahmad Danial Mohamed Rafa’ee appeared in court via video-link to receive the charge.
He is accused of committing murder by causing the death of Teo with the aid of his accomplice Ragil Putra Setia Sukmarahjana, 32.
The incident allegedly occurred on 30 June 2007, between 1.39am and 7.20am in a flat on the 10th floor of Block 19, Marine Terrace.
The police are still searching for Ragil Putra Setia, whom they believe is abroad.
Review of Cold Case Uncovered Leads
They arrested Ahmad Danial on Tuesday (15 Dec), after a review of the cold case uncovered fresh leads.
The police said they regularly review unsolved missing person cases for further leads, which includes interviewing family members and witnesses.
After the case was turned over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), officers made a breakthrough while tracing the belongings believed to be in Teo’s possession at the time of her disappearance.
Through this, the CID managed to link one of the belongings to the 35-year-old suspect.
The authorities are continuing their search for Teo’s remains, as the two men are believed to have disposed of her body.
Ahmad Danial will return to court next week.
If found guilty, the 35-year-old faces the death penalty.
