Kindhearted Cabbie Returns Phone To Condo But Got Beaten Up Instead

Your parents always tell you to be kind to others, and they’ll do the same to you.

For folks who believe in karma, you’re taught that if you do good things, you will be rewarded. One way or another.

Well, not this time.

Kindhearted Cabby Drove Back to Condo To Return Dropped Phone

If you’re a fan of STOMP’s citizen journalism, you’d have heard plenty of heartwarming stories about kindhearted people going the extra mile.

But unfortunately for this cabby, his happily-ever-after didn’t happen. Instead, what he got was a frustrating K-drama ending with the male and female lead going their separate ways.

Owner Turned Violent After Mistaking Cabby as a Thief

A ComfortDelgro taxi driver, Chen Wenyou, drove back to Blossom Residences on 10 Oct 2017. His purpose? To return a mobile phone dropped in his taxi by a passenger.

Unfortunately for him, the owner of the phone, Li Yaojie, thought he had stolen his phone and turned violent.

Security Guards Didn’t Do Anything To Help Until Later

However, none of them stopped Li or rendered any assistance until much later.

In the middle of the altercation, Li took off his shirt and provoked the driver, trying to get him out of the car. The Chen eventually drove off with his doors open.

Without a target, Li seemingly started to verbally abuse the security guards present on the scene.

Throughout the incident, he was shouting for someone to call the police. Well, the police got involved, but not in the way he wanted.

At around 2.10 am, the police were alerted to the incident.

And they arrested Li for threatening, abusing and insulting a public servant.

Lawyer Says Man Was Overworked & Under Huge Stress

On 10 Sep, Zaobao reported that Li was sentenced to a four-week jail term and fined $5,000.

He had pleaded guilty to the offence of voluntarily causing hurt, as well as another charge of using abusive language against a public servant.

His lawyer said that he was facing pressure at work. And that he had drunk a lot of alcohol while entertaining clients just before the incident.

Here, you can watch the video of the incident here.

Really, sometimes it just doesn’t pay to be kind.

But hey, at least he didn’t drink and drive. #AlwaysLookOnTheBrightSideofLife
