When you think about National Day songs, is there any other song which is more iconic than Home?
The widely loved National Day song was for Singapore’s birthday in 1998 and was performed by popular local singer Kit Chan.
And in 2023, Kit Chan remade the song for its 25th anniversary.
She will be performing the remade version during this year’s National Day celebrations.
Here is what you need to know.
Kit Chan Remade the Popular Song Home
The rousing song Home has received a musical facelift.
The updated rendition may be just your cup of tea if you enjoy slow and calming songs.
Last week, Kit Chan released the updated rendition of Home, which is titled Home (25th Anniversary Remake).
This version comes with a music video shot along iconic areas of Singapore and features the Marina Bay area as one of the locations.
Here is the original version for comparison.
Speaking to The Straits Times, Kit Chan says she wanted to reinterpret the song to reflect her as a “more mature” person who has “been through lots of ups and downs”.
The song contrasts with the original version, which is more “optimistic and ‘rah-rah’”.
Kit Chan also shares that this is a “National Day gift to all Singaporeans”, where she hopes to showcase it as an “intimate song … to sing to each Singaporean”.
Of course, remaking a popular song has its risks. There could be haters or trolls criticising the remake.
In response, Kit Chan revealed that she was “prepared for the naysayers” and believes that “There will be those who will appreciate this new version”.
She Will Perform the New Edition During the National Day Concert
You are in luck if you can’t get enough of this new song.
Kit Chan is slated to perform this new rendition live in connection with this year’s National Day celebrations.
The first time she performs this song to the public will be at the Gardens by the Bay and Mediacorp National Day Concert on 5 August 2023 at The Meadow. The show begins at 7.30 pm, and it is free for all.

If you miss that concert, you have another chance to catch her performing it at her upcoming 30th-anniversary shows from 8 September to 10 September this year. The venue is the Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands.
This is a ticketed event, and tickets range from $88 to $248. You can buy tickets from SISTIC here.
