Pet Abandonment Increases by 300%
So if you’re able to recall, the Movement Control Order (MCO) in Malaysia, which was recently extended, has been going on for a month and has started to seriously affect some Malaysians.
According to World of Buzz, it has affected many people’s livelihoods and has led to some horrible consequences; more and more people are abandoning their pets because they simply cannot afford to feed or take care of them anymore.

In fact, the Malaysia Animal Association (MAA) told Bernama that pet abandonment during the Movement Control Order has increased three-fold around Kuala Lumpur.
Yes folks, three-fold. Though if this proves enough to make you irate…
The next part will probably make you flip.
Kittens Tied Up In Plastic Bag & Abandoned in KL
On 22 April, MAA posted an unnerving photo on social media site Facebook:
Three kittens in one single tied up plastic bag… presumably left for dead.
Irate? Infuriating.
According to the accompanying caption of the post, the kittens were discovered in a knotted plastic bag by the roadside of Taman Supreme, Kuala Lumpur.
MAA has since implored the relevant authorities to instil more stringent laws, in a bid to prevent such incidents from happening again.
You can read view the Facebook post down below:
Transcript (lest you can’t read):
“Today another cat pet throwing case was reported. 3 kittens wrapped neatly in plastic and left on the shoulder of the road in the cumin lane 2, Taman Supreme Kuala Lumpur.
“Request Animal Malaysia to create a rule of ownership in the animal welfare act 2015 is not a matter of play and has long been raised.
“This picture is the result of leniency against the existing act. The problem of pet ownership will remain no ending and can not be incomplete if it is not held from now on. It should be a step to require the proof of the ownership of bermikrocip has long been thought of the berkuasan to be implemented.
“Many more cat and dog pet removal cases are recorded and some are involved in death. But it’s a loss when the owner can’t be track due to the absence of ownership data. Animal Criminal missed. Animals suffer and some end up with death.”
Understandably, Netizens have also vented their frustration and sadness in the comments section of the post, with a number empathising with the plight of the abandoned kittens.
Some have also advocated for perpetrators to practice more humane methods.
Though whether future perpetrators will actually heed the advice of these well-meaning people…
Steadfastly remains to be seen.
Not The First Time Either
Lest you’re unaware, this is not the first ‘visually shocking’ abandonment attempt following the extension of the dreaded MCO order. On 21 April, MAA reported another incident: two new-born kittens were found in a box next to a rubbish bin in Desa Pandan, Kuala Lumpur.
According to the post, rescuers are still trying to resuscitate the new-born kittens.
What a sad world we live in.
It’s disheartening enough that we’re losing loved ones to the Covid-19 outbreak every day, but this?
The Covid-19 wasn’t man-made, but animal abandonment is.
That’s the truth, and a cruel one at that.
