A Singaporean couple found dead at a Kuala Lumpur homestay had been under investigation for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl before their apparent suicide.
Wife Witnessed Husband’s Sexual Assault on 13-Year-Old Girl
Xie Jin De, 43, and Zhuang Shuyi, 33, reportedly knew the 13-year-old victim personally. On 30 Apr 2025, the couple took the girl out under the pretense of going for a walk but instead brought her to a rented condominium unit in Selangor.
According to Serdang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Farid Ahmad, Xie sexually assaulted the minor at the location.

His wife reportedly witnessed the incident.
The victim later told her parents that the couple had done “bad things” to her. Her parents immediately contacted the police and lodged a report.
Both Xie and Zhuang were subsequently arrested and investigated under Section 14 (a) of the Child Sexual Offences Act 2017 for sexual assault and indecent assault.
Couple Failed to Appear in Court
Xie was scheduled to appear in court on 14 May 2025 but failed to show up. The couple was found dead two days later at a homestay in Taman Taynton View, Cheras.
A staff member at the guesthouse on Jalan Nadchatiram discovered their bodies after noticing their shoes had remained outside past the checkout time.
After knocking on the door repeatedly with no response, the staff, with the manager’s permission, went inside the room.
The couple was found on the bed with the air conditioner, fan, and television still running. Police discovered remnants of burnt charcoal and a grill in the room, along with ketamine on a plate.
KL Police Chief Rusdi Mohd Isa said the couple had sealed the doors and windows with garbage bags. Malaysian authorities ruled their deaths as suicide by charcoal poisoning.

The bodies were found in a state of decomposition when discovered by the homestay staff.
Xie was also wanted for numerous other crimes in Selangor, including soliciting prostitution and possession of obscene materials.
Both families have been notified of the deaths, and the case remains under investigation by Malaysian authorities.
