A food delivery rider in Kuala Lumpur collapsed by the roadside while completing his final order of the day.
Authorities discovered a text message on his phone sent to his mother moments before his death.
“I am almost done with my work. I’m coming back home tonight with your favourite dish,” the message read.
Working Three Hours of Sleep to Fund Mother’s Medical Treatment
The rider and his mother lived together in a low-cost flat (PPR) in the city.
The deceased rider slept only three hours each day, working around the clock to earn money for his mother’s kidney disease treatment.
An RM10 (~S$3) donation receipt to a local mosque was found among his belongings. He had made this weekly donation without fail.
Neighbours and fellow delivery riders attended his funeral. Several mourners were seen crying during the service.
Mother’s Response to Son’s Death
The rider’s mother accepted her son’s passing despite the tragedy. She expressed pride after learning about the good deeds he had performed throughout his life.
“We didn’t get to have the meal together, but I was proud of what he was doing,” she said.
