20YO With a Knife & Chopper Allegedly Injured 7 People at Queenstown, Including a 6YO

A 20-year-old man was arrested after a stabbing incident in Queenstown on the evening of 3 February.

Seven people, including a six-year-old girl, were injured.

The police were alerted at around 7:05 pm that a man was wielding a chopper at 301 Commonwealth Avenue, just outside Queens Peak condominium.

Lianhe Zaobao reported that there were eight people were on the ground floor of the condominium, throwing chairs and other objects in a particular direction.

Video footage of this incident was provided to Zaobao by their readers.

Residents of the condominium told Zaobao that the suspect had chased the injured along Margaret Drive, with Zaobao’s reporters finding blood stains on the ground almost 1km away from where the suspect was found.

When the police arrived, the man was already being detained by members of the public.

Along with the suspect’s arrest, a knife and a chopper were seized by the police.

Two men, aged 76 and 40, and a six-year-old girl sustained minor injuries. They were conscious when conveyed to the National University Hospital.

Another three men, aged 54, 21 and 20, and a 45-year-old woman sustained minor injuries, but declined further medical assistance.

Tanjong Pagar GRC MP Eric Chua, who is responsible for grassroots affairs in Queenstown, posted on Facebook at 10:30 pm on Saturday that he rushed to the scene after being notified and spoke to police officers and residents. He expressed gratitude that no one was seriously injured in the incident.

Other Incidents

Despite us being barely a month into the new year, this isn’t the first shocking stabbing incident that has occurred.

On 2 January, Lee Jae-myung, the representative of South Korea’s primary opposition party, the liberal Democratic Party, was stabbed in the neck during his visit to Busan. The assailant had disguised himself as a supporter of Lee’s party.

Lee was seriously injured and surgery was deemed necessary. Fortunately, local news reports suggest that his injuries were not life-threatening.

Just one day after, on 3 January, a woman, believed to be in her twenties, stabbed four men on a train at Akihabara Station. The men sustained injuries to their sides, backs, and arms. Fortunately, their injuries were also not life-threatening.

In local news, a 20-year-old man was arrested for possessing an offensive weapon on 12 January, just three weeks ago.

In October last year, 49-year-old Joel Ezekiel, who posted a video of himself wielding a samurai sword in public, was charged in court with possession of the weapon.
