Sections of roof tiles and a supporting roof frame collapsed at Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery on 26 Nov 2025, prompting authorities to close off two buildings from public access.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:00pm at the Venerable Hong Choon Memorial Hall in the central part of the monastery compound at 88 Bright Hill Road.
Emergency Response and Minor Injuries at Sin Ming Monastery
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the incident at around 8:25pm.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed roof tiles and a supporting roof frame scattered within the courtyard of the premises.

SCDF deployed firefighters and rescuers from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team, along with search canines from its search platoon, to conduct a thorough search of the area.
One person sustained minor injuries and was assessed by an SCDF paramedic. The individual declined to be taken to hospital.
The space was unoccupied at the time of the incident and no activities were taking place near the area.
Building Authority Orders Investigation into Temple Roof Damage
The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) confirmed that sections of roof tiles and the supporting roof frame had fallen off the four-storey Venerable Hong Choon Memorial Hall.
Windows of an adjacent building were also damaged by the fallen debris from the memorial hall.
The structural integrity of the two buildings was not affected by the collapse.
However, public access to both buildings has been closed off for safety reasons.
BCA is serving an order to the building owner to appoint a professional engineer to investigate the cause of the collapse.
The professional engineer must advise on necessary precautionary measures to obviate any immediate danger and recommend permanent rectification works.
The monastery is working closely with authorities in ongoing investigations into the incident.
All prayer activities will continue as scheduled. Movements in certain areas may be temporarily adjusted to maintain a safe environment for devotees, volunteers and staff.
This includes the Grand Prayer that Blesses and Benefits All Sentient Beings, which began on 23 Nov 2025 and ends on 30 Nov 2025. One prayer shrine originally set up in the affected building has been safely relocated, and prayers are continuing without disruptions.
