The Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Civil Defence Force received a call for assistance at Block 210 Hougang Street 21 at 11.05am this morning.
The location, a four-storey shophouse near Kovan Market and Food Centre, houses retail outlets on the ground floor and residential units above.
Upon arrival, officers found the woman and a 26-year-old man with stab wounds. Both were immediately rushed to the hospital, where the woman later succumbed to her injuries.
According to witnesses, the incident occurred at Quan Long Nippon Paint hardware store, where the woman had been employed for one to two years.
An argument reportedly broke out between the woman and the assailant before the man retrieved a knife and attacked her.
Witnesses described seeing the woman stabbed at least six times, with some recounting up to seven or eight strikes. The woman lost consciousness during the attack.
According to a witness who spoke to Lianhe Zaobao, the 26-year-old colleague had attempted to intervene but was stabbed in the abdomen. He was also conveyed to the hospital for treatment.
