K-pop powerhouse SM Entertainment is set to open Southeast Asia’s first K-pop training academy in Singapore this June.
The Singapore branch of SM Universe, the company’s subsidiary training academy, will be located at *Scape.
The academy’s main offering is an intensive 21-week programme designed to develop students’ singing, dancing, and music production skills while enhancing their overall stage presence.
The programme will conclude with a week-long enrichment trip to SM Universe’s Seoul campus. Top-performing students will have the chance to audition for South Korean entertainment agencies during this visit.
Enrollment and Pricing
While there is no strict age limit for participants, the academy expects most enrollees to be between 13 and 18 years old.
The programme is priced at approximately S$13,510.
For the initial cohort, enrollment will be limited to around 50 students.
Prospective students must pass an online audition to determine their skill level before being accepted into the programme.
The academy will also offer shorter-term programmes for those looking to improve their performance skills.
SM Entertainment’s Track Record
SM Entertainment, known for launching iconic K-pop acts such as H.O.T., TVXQ, Super Junior, and Girls’ Generation, as well as newer groups like Riize and Aespa, opened its first SM Universe Academy in South Korea in 2023.
While the Seoul campus offers a three-year programme with majors in producing, singing, dancing, modelling, and acting, the Singapore branch has adapted its curriculum to fit an after-school format.
In addition to performance skills, the academy will offer classes to prepare students for the GED (General Educational Development) test, ensuring they receive a well-rounded education.
Jae-won Jang, CEO of SM Universe, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, stating, “SM Universe is excited to expand into Southeast Asia and nurture new talent. This academy will provide aspiring K-pop artistes in the region with a world-class education and serve as a springboard for their growth as they pursue their dreams on the international stage.”
This new venture by SM Entertainment reflects the growing global interest in K-pop and the increasing demand for professional training in the field.
