Yes, you read that headline right.
A Telegram group chat, SG Nasi Lemak, was recently discovered to be used by Singaporeans to spread photos of unsuspecting women.
Despite its name sounding rather innocent, the content in the group chat is way more disturbing.
Even though it has been closed after many people reported it for having pornographic content, it had over 44,000 active members in it, which is an insanely high number. According to chats within, the group even had up to 46,000 members at its peak.
According to AsiaOne, they found that the group was used to primarily circulate lewd content, sell vape devices and juices, sexual services, and sexual enhancement drugs.
Lewd Content
The bulk of content on the group was with regards to photographs and videos of unsuspecting women. They were pornographic in nature.
Nudes of young Malay women were even turned into custom Telegram sticker packs.
Members also shared photos of clothed women, either screenshots from their Instagram pages/social media accounts or actual photos that the members themselves took when the women weren’t looking.
One of the group’s administrators even tried to pin the blame on the victims if their photo ended up in the group, citing reasons like they are “the stupidest person ever to let their BF/GF take SEXUAL VIDEOS to be leaked out all over the social media platform not just telegram STUPID!”.
Wow.
Other Telegram Groups Exist
Sadly, even with the closure of this group, there are still other Telegram groups circulating similar lewd content.
Despite measures to shut down all these kinds of platforms, the reason why content like this thrive on Telegram is because of Telegram’s anonymity feature in which one can choose not to reveal their phone numbers and hide behind the facade of a username, as well as Telegram’s group settings which allow groups to add over tens of thousands of members at once.
There is also another Telegram group that specialises in circulating photos of uniformed school girls.
Singaporean pedophiles share images with each other on Telegram groups, have almost a thousand members from r/singapore
It is absolutely horrifying to find out that such groups exist and it is necessary for there to be stricter regulations to keep these in check.
What You Can Do
While it is sad that it is only a matter of time before these kinds of group surface again due to the nature of the Internet, we can all do our part to minimise the chances of these things from happening.
First off, you can help by reporting any of such groups if you happen to come across them. One Twitter user filed a police report when she came across the SG Nasi Lemak group and it has since been taken down, but it is unclear as to whether the Singapore Police Force had anything to do with it.
There is a difference between this two. As for porn, both ladies and the gentlemen agree on showing their bodies worldwide and are fully aware that guys will jerk. As for SG nasi lemak, the ladies are not aware of their picture being used for y’all sicko to jerk off. https://t.co/sEiy09R9Pe

Women should also be careful when they’re out and make sure that they take note of anyone who tries to take photos of them when they’re out in public.
You can also do your part by helping to ensure that the people around you don’t share such content, or if you spot anyone trying to take photos or videos of unsuspecting people, call them out for it.
Whatever you do, be careful. There are a lot of creeps around.
